Kochi
The city of Kochi (Cochin) is a blend of
many different cultures from the colonial
rule of the British and Portuguese to Jewish
communities and Chinese business.
Visit some of the old churches and the
synagogue and then head down to the
sea to watch the fishermen with their
huge Chinese cantilevered nets.
In Kochi you can also witness a traditional
Kathakali dance where the performers
wear extravagant costumes and make-up,
and are accompanied by singing
and percussive music.
Goa
Magnificent scenic beauty and the
architectural splendour of its temples,
churches and old houses have made
Goa a favourite among visitors to India.
Goa has a long history but the strongest
mark was left by the Portuguese who
colonised the enclave from the 16th century
until 1961. The historical buildings are
recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage
Site and include the Basilica of Bom Jesus,
Sé Cathedral of Santa Catarina and the
Church of St. Cajetao.
Of course we cannot forget the beaches
which are a major attraction of Goa. Miles
of beautiful golden sand touch the warm
Indian Ocean making this an idyllic place
to relax at the end of your holiday.
Kerala Cruising
Cruise the backwaters of Kerala on
a kettuvallam, a houseboat that is
converted from a traditional rice
barge. Observe small villages, temples
and schools and enjoy authentic
Keralan food as you make your way
slowly through the network of canals.
This is a very relaxing way to gain an
insight into life by the water.
Periyar National Park
Periyar National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary
is set in the Cardamom Hills near to
Thekkady. The park has great scenic charm
with a rich biodiversity and is a repository
of rare flora and fauna. Periyar is known as
a tiger reserve, although the creatures are
extremely elusive and are very unlikely to be
observed. More easily seen are some of the
one thousand elephants. Also look out for
leopards, palm civets and sambars as well
as many varieties of birds.
